Conflict in the Middle East
For decades, the U.S. has taken an active role in the Middle East—a region that continues to experience conflict and unrest. Issues ranging from nuclear proliferation in Iran to the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to pose challenges for leaders in the U.S. and around the world. U.S. President Barack Obama has promised a new approach in the region, including a planned withdrawal of combat forces from Iraq by August 2010, and a shifting resources and troops to the more volatile Afghanistan.
Georgetown faculty members are available to comment on U.S. withdrawal of troops in Iraq, as well as broader issues such as the role of U.S. foreign policies and actions in the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis and the threat of nuclear weapons in Iran.
A studio-quality ISDN service is available free of charge to radio news outlets who would like to interview Georgetown University faculty. For more information about these or other faculty experts at Georgetown University, please contact the Office of Communications at (202) 687-4328.
